NTC Continuous Quality Improvement Program
|
Northwest Technical College, following its successful accreditation visit in February 2000 and as the result of its commitment to continuous quality improvement, decided to pursue the Higher Learning Commission’s new Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) accreditation track as the most appropriate pathway for achieving ongoing quality. Its application was accepted and the College sent a team to its first Strategy Forum in August 2001, thus beginning its AQIP journey. While the College has changed in structure during the intervening years, it remains committed to the AQIP process and continues its quest for Performance Excellence. NTC developed its electronic Systems Portfolio to document Context, Processes, Results and Improvements in each of the nine AQIP categories, and submitted it for review in May 2006. The Systems Appraisal was completed by a team of reviewers who in turn submitted a Feedback Report to the college in October 2006. A team of seven individuals participated in the Strategy Forum for returning colleges in January 2007, followed by a Quality Checkup Visit in March. The Checkup Review Team submitted its report to the college in April. Both the Systems Appraisal Feedback Report and the Checkup Visit Report are posted in this Systems Portfolio. The Portfolio is a living electronic document that is continually updated. During the college's seventh year of participation in AQIP, reviewers from the Higher Learning Commission conducted its Reaffirmation Review and as a result the college's accreditation was reaffirmed for another seven years. The documentation from this process -- a Summary Report sent to the HLC staff and the Reaffirmation Report resulting from the review--are included in this portfolio. The foundation for the College’s Academic Quality Improvement Program includes: Northwest Technical College's Commitment to Quality Policy (1010-1-01) clearly states the College's intentions with regard to Continuous Quality Improvement: "Northwest Technical College is committed to quality in all its educational programs and supportive services to meet or exceed learners’ and other constituents’ expectations. In response to this commitment, the College shall support implementation of continuous quality improvement principles and practices." In August 2000, NTC joined the Higher Learning Commission's Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP)--just a few short months after a successful accreditation visit in February of 2000. The College community appreciated that AQIP supported efforts to regularly and continually look for ways to assess and improve our performance, Through the years since joining AQIP, NTC has participated in all aspects of the AQIP Cycle of Review, most recently, a Systems Appraisal of our Systems Portfolio and a subsequent Check-Up Visit. We sent a team of six faculty, staff, and campus administrators, plus the President and the Chair of the MnSCU Board of Trustees to our second Strategy Forum in January 2007. We recently retired three Action Projects and initiated four new Action Projects. You can read about these through the links below.
